Harriet Tubman Day!

Students started out running through a forest towards a safe house, where they were given a meal and a safe place to sleep. Their stay at the safe house was interrupted by a visit from slave catchers, so they had to move on. Students got a lesson in how following the stars and using quilt patterns helped lead to freedom. Finally, students arrived in Canada, where they met Harriet Tubman and gained freedom.

We would like to thank Ms. Sherri, Mrs. Garrison, Mrs. Chan, Ms. Sharif, and Mrs. Sykes for planning and putting on such a wonderful event. Our 8th graders were also instrumental in acting as conductors, leading the students on the Underground Railroad.
